Tom Field Head PGA Professional

I was a late starter to the game of golf taking it up when I was 16 years old. Four years later after having many hours of tuition, I managed to reduce my handicap to 0.7. After competing in many amateur events locally and further afield, I turned Professional in 2006.

Since qualifying as a PGA Instructor, I have constantly endeavoured to improve myself as a coach and further my knowledge of the game. I believe, that it is the committment to improvement, together with keeping up to date with current practices and techniques, which has enabled me to become an effective and empathetic coach.

" Teach every pupil as an individual to discover their strengths and weaknesses and identify the best way to deliver improvement"

I am very much against 'ripping it up and starting again', I believe in teaching strong fundemental practices to encourage simple and effective swing movements.

" No matter what level you play the game, you never stop learning"

 Rob Knight PGA Professional

I have held my position as Tom Field’s Assistant since March 2013 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the role. I was a junior member at The Wychwood from 2003-10 and fortunate enough to captain the Junior Team in 2008.

During my coaching, I provide simple, effective instruction to better those at all levels. I feel it is crucial to understand how my clients learn. I aim to give them short and long-term goals from each session in order to achieve consistently better scores.

In 2014 I introduced ‘Get Into Golf’ beginner group sessions to the club. These are 4-week courses (1 hour per week) costing only £20 per person! They happened to be the most successful in all of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire (BB&O) and for this I received an award. These will again run throughout 2016 for both men and women.

I continued our successful junior group lessons on Saturday afternoons and taught 15 children from a local primary school during their summer term. Tom and I also provided golf for summer schools and worked with the junior squad. This year I will use the our own form of Golf Foundation Junior Passport Scheme to develop young golfers in schools and at the club.

 Marc Wheeler PGA Professional

I started playing golf around the age of 12; my early experience of the game was from playing local municipal courses and ‘bashing away’ at driving ranges with my father and close friends. It wasn’t until I had a few lessons at the age of 20, from the local PGA professional that I began to take a more focused interest. It wasn’t until 1998, that as an amateur I started working weekends at a local professional shop to learn club-making skills and get an insight into the game and the business of golf that I decided to make a career from.

As my playing ability improved and my thirst to coach at a professional level increased I decided to take the leap into professional golf in 2001 and then undertake the PGA training program. I was an assistant to an advanced PGA member who with 30 years experience in the golf world guided me through the PGA program and taught me many of the coaching and playing skills that I now can share with you.

I became a full-qualified member of the Professional Golfers Association in 2006 In 2007 I took my education and experience into the city of Oxford, where I began as a freelance coach to hone my skills. During this time I taught all age groups and levels of golfer; in particular I was coach to the Oxford University Ladies Team 2009/2010 and also to individuals from the Oxford University ‘Blues’ men's golf team. In 2010 I helped to deliver the ‘Lee Westwood Golf Academy’, and subsequently in 2011, I progressed to the roll as ‘lead coach’.

Since then I have continued as a freelance coach teaching in the Oxfordshire area to many golfers many of whom follow my golf YouTube video's and also golf Facebook account. I believe that most of us learn in our own 'preferred' way and so my teaching philosophy endeavours to reflect that all-important fact: to identify and then employ the most effective methods for each individual to understand and develop freely. I like to use camera's to show 'before' and 'after' so that each individual can actually see and understand 'improvements', even though they may feel 'different' and tricky to perform in the first instant!

Despite my strong association with coaching I have not ignored my passion for the sport and playing the game I love. I like to find time for fitness, keeping up to date with equipment technology and to continue to practice and compete as often as I can in professional golf tournaments. I am delighted to be working along side Tom, Rob and the team at The Wychwood golf club, and I am also looking forward to helping you to improve in all aspects of your golf game and knowledge. My aim as your coach is to make positive changes through understanding and also to ensure your continued enjoyment of this wonderful game we all strive to 'tame'!

I look forward to meeting you.
